Competition Tyres

As the main point of contact between the car and the road, tyres play a vital role in the overall performance of the car. The type of tyre that you choose depends on what form of competition that you are involved with. Typically, circuit racing tyres from the likes of Dunlop, Yokohama and Hankook feature either a slick, semi-slick or wet weather tread patterns, while rally tyres are offered in tarmac or gravel patterns. There are also a number of other tread patterns available for autograss, track day or historic racing.

As well as being available in a range of tread patterns, some competition tyres also feature a choice of compounds. In general, softer compounds offer increased grip but at the expense of tyre wear. Likewise, harder compounds feature improved tyre wear properties but with a reduced level of grip.

Most of the time, the type of tyres that can be used are governed by the regulations for a specific championship, but if the tyre choice is free, finding the right type for you will be the best compromise of your specific requirements. For example, if you are competing on tarmac, slick tyres offer the best levels of grip in dry conditions, but in some cases, more of an all-weather tyre is required - and we've got plenty from top brands like Kumho and Maxsport for you to choose from. Also worth considering is whether your specific championship requires the use of E-Marked tyres, particularly if there is the need to use public roads.
