DC Electronics EPAS Ultra Motorsport Power Steering System

DC Electronics have developed a range of standalone electric power-assisted steering systems (EPAS) including this Ultra Motorsport System which is designed for competition use.

The EPAS motor itself offers a wide range of customisation options through the included setup software down to the mounting position in the car. The motor is able to be mounted anywhere between the steering wheel and the steering rack and can be rotated through any degree of orientation to best suit the spacial requirements of your particular car. Built-in to the motor housing is a torque sensor which measures the amount of force that is being applied by the driver. This information is then sent through to the ECU which then determines the direction and the amount of force that the motor will deliver. As the power steering system is fully electronic, there are no hydraulic lines or fluid to deal with, making the installation easier and removes the potential for leaks. Not only this, it also reduces the overall weight and removes drain on the engine to provide greater fuel efficiency.

Included as part of the Ultra Motorsport kit is the Ultra ECU. This unit is purpose built for professional motorsport teams and offers the user a wide array of fine tuning capabilities. The ECU unit provides the option to run in conjunction with a CAN Bus system which, when combined with a data logger, can allow for all steering parameters to be stored for later review. Aside from the CAN Bus interface, the ECU also features 4x digital outputs, 2x speed inputs, 2x digital inputs and 3x analogue inputs which are available for custom applications. Supplied with high quality Autosport connectors for use with the supplied wiring harness and encased in a machined billet housing. The ECU unit also features an energy efficient heat sink to help remove unwanted thermal energy and maintain the optimum working conditions.

Included on the ECU, and which is accessible via the EPAS Desktop Pro software, are 5 fully configurable setup maps that determine the amount of electronic assistance which is produced by the motor when a certain torque is applied via the steering wheel. Using the included software, you are able to fully adjust the amount of electronic assistance at any given point to best suit the drivers requirements./p>

If your particular vehicle is not fitted with a steering angle sensor, you will also need to purchase a multi-turn steering angle kit (sold separately), please see the associated items on the right hand side of the page. On the steering wheel side of the electrical motor unit, there is a splined end for fitting to a vehicle boss kit, this spline is 9/16" diameter x 36 spline.
