Modern competition oils are blended to provide superior protection for both engine and transmission components, however, in some cases an extra helping hand may be required in the form of specialist oil additives.

Some of these high performance, extensively developed oil additives are used even before the engine is started for the first time. During an engine rebuild, it is necessary for critical components to be installed using engine assembly lubes which provide friction and wear protective properties. These lubricants are soluble in oil and help with the initial engine break-in process.

For engines which have already been run in, there are a number of oil additives which can increase the viscosity of the oil and protect the engine internals from the effects of friction. Not only does this protect the engine from any potential damage, it also increases the engine's efficiency - and lifespan - by allowing the internal components to move more freely and allow the engine to utilise the power produced more effectively. Further benefits include improved cold start protection, increased fuel economy and lower emissions which all combine to create a healthier, more effective racing engine.
