Motorcycle Jet Kits & Fuel Modules
Jet kits and fuel modules are essential upgrades for motorcycles, particularly those with carburetted engines, enhancing performance by optimising the air-fuel mixture. Jet kits consist of various sizes of jets—small orifices that control fuel flow into the carburettor. By replacing stock jets with those in the kit, riders can adjust the fuel delivery to match modifications like aftermarket exhausts or air filters, ensuring the engine operates efficiently and produces maximum power.
Technically, jet kits include main jets, pilot jets, and needles, each affecting different throttle positions. Main jets control fuel flow at wide-open throttle, pilot jets manage low-speed operations, and needles influence mid-range performance. Tuning these components involves selecting the appropriate jet size to achieve the ideal air-fuel ratio, which is crucial for combustion efficiency. A well-tuned jet kit eliminates issues like lean or rich mixtures, improving throttle response, power output, and fuel economy.
Fuel modules, used in fuel-injected motorcycles, perform a similar function by adjusting the electronic signals that control fuel injectors. These modules interface with the bike's ECU, allowing precise adjustments to fuel delivery based on engine conditions and rider input. Benefits include smoother power delivery, enhanced acceleration, and the ability to accommodate performance modifications. Both jet kits and fuel modules ensure that the engine runs optimally, delivering improved performance, reliability, and riding enjoyment.
