Rev limiters and shift lights are crucial components in motorsport cars, designed to optimise engine performance and driver control. Rev limiters prevent the engine from exceeding its maximum RPM, protecting it from potential damage due to over-revving. By setting a predefined RPM threshold, these devices ensure the engine operates within safe limits, thereby increasing reliability and longevity.

Shift lights, on the other hand, provide visual indicators to the driver when it is optimal to change gears. These lights, typically mounted on the dashboard or steering wheel, illuminate as the engine approaches the rev limiter. This helps the driver to execute gear shifts at the precise moment, maximising acceleration and performance. The use of shift lights enables quicker, more accurate gear changes, reducing the risk of missed shifts and improving lap times.

Together, rev limiters and shift lights enhance engine protection and driving efficiency, allowing drivers to push their vehicles to the limits while maintaining control and performance.
