As well as the intercooler itself, the design of the pipework around it plays a vital part in turbo performance. Narrow or poorly designed pipework can choke the performance of the turbo, or delay air making it's way from the turbo to the engine.

Revo have looked at the pipework on several of their favourite applications and identified some areas for improvement.

Flow-rate is important. Wider pipework and smoother materials help increase the speed with which air makes it's way through the pipework. Making everything wider is an easy call. The materials used help a lot. A mixture of silicone hose and mandrel bent aluminium pipework offer minimal internal resistance.

This means you can both get more air down the pipework and there is less delay. Minimising delays helps reduce any delays between you putting your foot down and air from the turbo making it's way into the engine.

Revo have also looked at the routing of the pipework. In some cases they were able to identify improvements that could be made simply by changing the routing of the intercooler pipework to a more direct path.
