Whether you've chosen it out of superstition or it's the number you've been given by race organisers, all racing cars and motorcycles need a race number to help identify them. Race stewards and marshals need to know which racer is which in the event of an incident on the track, and your team needs to know where you are in terms of lap time and position, with a race number helping to make you stand out. Some racers have the same race number throughout their careers, others change according to the event, so whichever category you fall into you need to ensure that your car or motorcycle is equipped.
