Oil Hoses & Fitting
Hoses and fittings for oil coolers in performance vehicles are critical components that ensure efficient and reliable operation of the oil cooling system. These parts are designed to handle the high temperatures and pressures associated with engine oil circulation. High-performance hoses are typically made from materials such as synthetic rubber or PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) with stainless steel braiding. This construction provides excellent heat resistance, durability, and flexibility, enabling the hoses to withstand the harsh conditions found in high-performance environments.
Technically, oil cooler hoses must maintain integrity under both high pressure and high temperature. The inner lining of the hose is designed to resist degradation from prolonged exposure to hot oil, while the outer layers are reinforced to prevent abrasion and puncture. The stainless steel braiding not only enhances durability but also minimises expansion and contraction, ensuring consistent oil flow. These hoses are often tested to meet specific burst pressure ratings, which are significantly higher than the operating pressures of typical oil systems, ensuring safety and reliability.
Fittings used with oil cooler hoses are equally critical and are typically made from high-grade aluminium or steel to provide a secure, leak-free connection. These fittings include AN (Army-Navy) fittings, which are a standard in the performance industry due to their precision and reliability. AN fittings have a 37-degree flare design, which provides a tight seal when connected to corresponding hoses and adapters. The fittings are designed to be reusable, allowing for easy maintenance and adjustments. Properly matched and installed hoses and fittings ensure that the oil cooling system operates efficiently, maintaining optimal engine performance and longevity.
