Automotive Plumbing Solutions Magnetic Sump/Drain Plugs are the best way of trapping and removing microscopic metal particles from an engines lubricating oil.
Imagine you have just built your new engine, pour oil in for the first time and fire it up. There will be lots of minute filings that are still on the machined metal. They will have to go somewhere and the best place is straight to your magnetic sump plug keeping them out of harms way. As your engine does more and more miles, parts will wear and again you want any metal filings out of the engine to keep it running smoothly. When you do your oil change you will also remove the metal filings by removing the magnetic sump plug and cleaning it you can then replace it so that it can work its magic all over again.
