Decibel & Sound Level Meters
Local councils impose a range of noise restrictions on race circuits in order to reduce noise pollution in the local area, but it also has a direct impact on the long-term hearing of those at the circuit. While circuits will have a maximum sound level, measured in decibels, it is vital that teams adhere to these otherwise they face expulsion from the event. A decibel meter can be used to take an accurate measurement of the sound generated by each car or motorcycle to ensure that the noise is no louder than it should be, allowing the racer to compete and to protect the hearing of racers, mechanics, marshals and stewards, too. Digital sound level meters and handheld decibel meters are all small enough to fit into a team kitbag but can play a vital role in your participation at the event and to reduce the impact of excessive engine noise on those working in and around the cars.
