NGK Iridium Spark Plug
NGK Iridium spark plugs have been specifically developed for improved spark performance and superior anti-fouling properties ideal for performance enthusiasts.
- Outstanding acceleration, high fuel efficiency and durability
- Fine Iridium tip for consistent spark performance
- Cold-rolled threads prevent cross-threading and damage to cylinder heads
- Trivalent plating eliminates the need for anti-seize compounds
- High-grade alumina silicate ceramic quickly dissipates heat
Each and every spark plug manufactured by NGK is designed to meet the most rigorous standards, ensuring the ability to deliver reliability and consistent performance under all conditions. Each plug plays a major role in helping improve performance, fuel economy and the overall optimum efficiency of your engine, helping to make a significant contribution in the reduction of emissions.
NGK uses 98% pure Copper in place of the iron core found in conventional plugs and is the secret to their wide heat range. The Copper core electrode provides superior heat conductivity and combined with the alumina silicate insulator allows for quicker dissipation of heat for more reliable starting and aids in the cooling of the electrode tip and insulator tip; thus, preventing hot spots that could cause pre-ignition. Copper cored electrodes also mean that longer insulator noses can be used to protect against fouling and increase spark reliability.
Trivalent plating is the silver finish on NGK plugs that is specifically developed to prevent corrosion of the bare metal threads and metal surfaces of the spark plug, whilst allowing dry fitment without the need for anti-seize compounds during services.
All NGK spark plugs use copper cores but rely on precious metals for their electrode construction as copper alone is superior for heat dissipation but is a soft metal with a low melting point.
NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs are developed alongside OE manufacturers to ensure quality and durability standards. They usually feature a single laser-welded Iridium centre electrode with between 1 and 4 ground electrodes, dependent on the spark plugs design and application. The latest innovations include fine-wire iridium centre electrodes (approximately 1.0mm minimum) and high-grade alumina ceramic insulators, making them ideal Iridium OE performance replacement or upgrade plugs.
NGK Iridium IX spark plugs improve on OE performance with premium 0.6mm fine-wire Iridium alloy centre electrodes that are 6x denser than Platinum with a high melting point (2450°C), giving a hard, durable electrode that increases service life. With the addition of a tapered-cut ground electrode, Iridium IX spark plugs produce an intense spark with higher ignitability and throttle response. Available in colder heat ranges, making them ideal for high-performance and modified engines.
